Enjoyed it!
I stumbled across this book as I purchased another one. I thought it sounded interesting so I bought it. I guess one of the things I liked most about it was how it captured my interest quickly. It was paced well and kept me entertained throughout. I thought the ending was a little cliche, but other than that I really enjoyed it.

Worth the price.
I just finished reading The Spirit of the Moon. A friend had recommended that I read it. I was not familiar with the author, Philip Mitchell, but because it was less than $5, I thought I’d give it a try. I judge a book by whether it keeps my interest and keeps me reading. This book did both and in fact I read it in only two days. The plot is a little unbelievable in places, but it was just fun. If you read for fun and entertainment, I recommend this one.

Suspenseful
A must read for anyone interested in romance, suspense or a mysterious book! A real page-turner, you will not want to put the book down! Never a dull moment; you will not be disappointed. A+++!

Bloodhound Bosch is still the best
After so many Harry Bosch stories you would think they should start to run out of steam – IMHO this is not so. Michael Connelly is a consummate author who can keep a great character running and evolving and continue to produce a top-class page-turning police procedural.

In the last book, after a short retirement Harry Bosch returned to the LAPD with a 5 year contract under the Deferred Retirement Option Plan – “The DROP”. He now works with the Open Unsolved Unit chasing up cold cases. In 1999, at the height of the LA Riots, Bosch briefly gets involved with the discovery of the gunshot death of a pretty female free-lance Danish press photographer who was apparently killed as part of the riot. This case had always troubled Bosch and he gladly accepts the challenge although after all that time the trail has gone cold.

Bosch is an impatient detective – to him momentum is everything. Once he is on the trail he is a bloodhound who never lets up until he finds a break. He calls this “The Black Box” because, similar to air crash investigation a single verified clue may open up the whole case. After diligent and clever police work Bosch finds his Black Box and discovers a web of intrigue and violence going back to the first Gulf War.

Working the case in his normal independent manner is not helped by his a strained relationship with and lack of respect for the competence of his superiors at LAPD, especially his current Lieutenant (O’Toole – nickname “O’Fool”). “You are the worst kind of police officer, Bosch. You are arrogant, a bully, and you think the laws and regulations don’t apply to you.” O’Toole refers Bosch to Internal Affairs on what seems to be a petty matter, but it is important because it affects the way Bosch can run the investigation and if the complaint is upheld he could easily lose his job because he is on a DROP contract.

Connelly keeps up the pressure and spins an exciting tale of skilled police investigation by a dedicated, independent but somewhat personally flawed Harry Bosch. I recommend this book as a great read for lovers of police procedurals and a good Christmas present for those who still read print books.

Congratulations to Allen & Unwin for releasing this Kindle edition in Australia nearly a week ahead of its release in the US by Hatchette.

Way to Go Tim!
Gotta love Tim and his paranormal stories. They set themselves apart of the mainstream books about vampires and all things that go bump in the night. His ideas are like none other. That is why I will continue to follow him as an author. His latest book “Cowgirls and Vampires” is a great story involving action, adventure, romance and mystery. Not to mention the ending, TIM! How can you leave us like that? We’ll talk about that later. Back to the story. The de !–ion Tim gives about the Wild West is unbelievable. You would think he knows from experience all about how life was back then, and that makes this an even more enjoyable read. His de !–ions really put you in the story, able to picture every rock, mountain, town perfectly in your mind, right down to what the characters are wearing. The story itself is enjoyable too because his creepy crawly characters are not what’s out in the mainstream today. His are a whole different breed just like in his Kiera Hudson series. Tim has given each of his characters a bit of mystery so you are always guessing who the bad guy is or what that person is really about. It completely makes it a page turner. I really hope Tim continues this as a series, especially after the ending. Shame on you for leaving us hanging like that *sad face*. I need to know what happened to Harry! Enjoy.

Eekkkkkkk…………Smashing start for a new series!!
Tim O’Rourke has taken his 1st trip out of YA & straight into Hott Damn!! What an incredible adventure!!

I will admit I was a little nervous going into this. After following Kiera & crew from the Kiera Hudson series for so long now (8 books so far!!) I wasn’t sure how I would feel about getting involved with a new group of characters. As it turns out I feel GREAT! Sammy is one bad-ass cowgirl & her friends are……….. well their something else!! And Harry, oh Harry *sigh* I feel as though Im cheating on Potter & I can’t seem to help myself. Chapter 23…………just sayin 😉 *blushing/grinning* moving on……..

Without going into the plot & spoiling the fun let me just say this book will screw with your head. I didn’t know if I was comin or goin. As per usual O’Rourke style lots of action, blood, gore (I was actually cringing at some parts…..just gross) & surprises around every corner. And the last chapter…UGH pulling my hair out here!! This new series has great potential & I for one CANNOT WAIT to see where he goes from here!! Im sure I will love it. I dont think he could write a bad book if he tried at this point. Smashing start for a new series!!

Secrets In The Shadows by T.L. Haddix

Reviews: 4.1 Stars out of 5 from 23 reviews and 103 Facebook Likes

Secrets is a Well Kept Secret Needing to be Discovered
This book is not a genre mystery (though there is a mystery in it). It is not a romance (though there is plenty of romance). It is not a psychological thriller (though the psychology is as twisted and creepy as any you might read about in your most lurid of true-crime exploitations). What you have here is an honest-to-God literary work that deals with the secrets of people that could very well be your next door neighbors. Secrets masqueraded beneath the thin skin of normality, that take us all by surprise when they erupt in sudden and dispicable violence. And it is pulled together by a newly published author who is only going to get better. The prose is sometimes lyrical, but the dialogue is as rough and real as the every day America. You never have the feeling she is putting words in her characters’ mouths.

The author is not dealing with mythical monsters, but the real ones that feed off that dark stream of malignance that runs through the heart of every idyllic American town. Living in the shadow of evil affects us all. And she tells us through the lives of her people that even the best of us are scarred. Even those who fight evil are touched by it and can never be the same.

The true mark of a good book is that reading it makes you want to read more. I was about fifty pages into this better than three hundred page book and I was already wanting the next one.

Secrets in the Shadows
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in reading stories about sexy supernatural beings, fairytale endings and demonic monsters, that we push aside the reality that you don’t have to have supernatural abilities to be a real life monster. The monsters I am referring are like those found in the book one of the Leroy’s Sins series, Secrets in the Shadows by T. L. Haddix. These monsters can be your best friend, your next door neighbor, the guy who always smiles and says hello as you pass each other on the street, or even your closest family member. Living a seemingly normal life by day but lurking in the shadows at night, they leave a trail of emotional destruction where ever they go. In Secrets in the Shadows, such is true for cousins Margie and Lauren, as we follow their shared story and learn why sometimes people have to do the unthinkable just to be able to survive. T. L. Haddix covers some real life issues such as rape and abuse and how hard emotionally it is to overcome such terrible struggles, especially when there are unanswered questions preventing the healing process. The first couple of chapters are a little slow moving, but it quickly found its pace and moves along and keeps the reader intrigued and wanting to know what happens next! One thing that I particularly liked, was that T. L. Haddix doesn’t sugarcoat these issues and have the stereotypical fairytale ending, where everyone goes skipping off happily into the sunset. The reader feels the raw emotions and struggles that they character is facing and not everyone is lucky enough to make it out alive. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two of the Leroy’s Sins series, Under the Moon’s Shadows.
